TWO young hockey stars players have been picked for Wales’ Easter U16 Test Series in Scotland.
Goalkeeper Elin Leppard and midfielder Mari Paulson will make their international debuts in the three-match series in Glasgow.
The 15-year-old pupils from Monmouth School for Girls gained selection for Wales after working hard and impressing in training camps since October.
Wales face Scotland U16s at Glasgow National Hockey Centre on Friday, March 30, Saturday, March 31 and Sunday, April 1.
Both are stand-out first-team players at Monmouth School for Girls and were selected to play for Celtic Jaguars U15 girls at St Albans in the Futures Cup last autumn.
“Being selected for Wales for the first time is a great opportunity for us and it will be fun to go up to Scotland to play,” said Mari.
“It’s our first steps into our Welsh hockey journey and it has made all the hard work worth it.
“If we play together as a team we can definitely beat Scotland, but we also need to enjoy the whole experience.”
Elin started her hockey as an outfield player, but became a goalkeeper when she was in Year 6.
“Playing in goal can be quite fun and terrifying at the same time, but it’s something I enjoy,” she said.
“Scotland will be hard opponents because we played their unofficial team in the Futures Cup last year and they were excellent.”
