JUNIOR Forest of Dean athletes have been making their mark at both national and regional levels.

Among them was javelin thrower Tillie Westwood who, despite dislocating her elbow in winning the district schools round, progressed through the county and regional stages to qualify for the finals in Cardiff where she braved the pain to win gold in the junior event and become Welsh Schools National Champion.

Tillie’s Forest of Dean Athletic Club (FoDAC) teammates representing Gloucestershire at the South West Inter-counties in Exeter were Maisy Harvey, Will Compton, Hannah Kolic and Max Lancett, along with Dylan Menhennet who competed as an individual.

Will gained a silver in U15 boys Hammer, Hannah and Maisy won silver and bronze respectively in U15 girls Hammer and Max Lancett won silver in U13 boys 200m.

Having won their respective county and regional fixtures, hammer throwers Maisy, Will and Dylan all qualified for the English Schools finals held in Birmingham, where Maisy finished 13th, Dylan 7th and Will became silver medalist with a throw of 47.37m, qualifying him for a National Schools event.

Erlina Ainsworth and Tatjana Mount joined Tillie Westwood to compete in the Welsh Schools Nationals in Cardiff where Erlina finished fourth in Junior Girls Triple Jump and Tatjana sixth in Middle Girls Triple Jump.
