REFORMED at the start of the season, Harrow Hill 'A' – the club's third team – know all about grass roots football. There was no referee for Saturday's game, a bit of a stack-up as tempers frayed, and, at the end of it all, a result they couldn't complain about.
"It was our own fault. We didn't supply a referee and had to offer the option to Coleford. I personally thought we outplayed them but we did have plenty of chances and failed to score so we can't really moan," said player manager Chaz Sullivan.
The defeat was a surprise, said Sullivan. Harrow Hill had hoped to build on the previous week's excellent result when they drew 3 - 3 with league leaders Sedbury.
"We have been playing quite well and lost only twice since Christmas. We expected to beat Coleford who are at the bottom of the table but though we had lots of chances we didn't score and that's the end of it," he said.
Sullivan says he believes his team will be strong challengers next season.
"We have a side of battlers. Even when we lost one match by nine goals our heads didn't drop and everyone turned up the following week. We have improved as the season has gone on and with the addition of a couple more players to the squad I'm convinced we can move up a division next season," he said.
Typically, Sullivan has shown his commitment to the team by playing in almost every position this season. "I have been in goal, in defence, in attack and even in midfield," he says.
But he points to captain Luke Wiles and top scorer Tom Ringrose as the star players.
"We definitely missed Luke who was unavailable on Saturday. He keeps the midfield in shape.
"Our only goal against Coleford was scored by Tom Ringrose who has been red-hot this season, scoring 17 times in 14 games. With players like them I'm sure we will be up with the leaders next season," said Chaz.
