A CHARITY ladies' football match raised more than £780 for cancer research despite taking place in torrential rain.

The game between Wilfy's FC – which takes it name from Donna's nickname – and Mitcheldean Ladies was watched by more than 100 people at the Causeway club, Cinderford.

Wilfy's is made up of former team mates of Donna who played for Cinderford and Ross. Several of them now play for Ellwood.

The money will go to the Winged Wonder Relay for Life team who are aiming to raise £10,000 by June and are now close to the target.

The event was organised by Donna Woods with Michaela Powell bringing together the players.

Donna Hyndman died aged 40 in 2009 after twice contracting breast cancer and the Winged Wonders take part in Relay for Life for Cancer Research in her memory.

Michaela Powell said: "The rain was torrential but we had a good day and we are delighted to have £782."

The final score was 3-1 to Wilfy's
