LYDNEY Boxing Club was delighted to welcome International Boxing Federation world feather-

weight champion Lee Selby to its annual show which was held at the Forest Hills Golf Club in Coleford.

Jaiden Potter won an unanimous points decision against Kieron Llewellyn of the Llanrumney club of Cardiff.

The 17-year-old’s performance won him the Gavin Childs Memorial Shield for the best Lydney boxer of the evening.

Mike Freeman of Lydney received a shield for the best senior prospect after winning unanimously against James Townsend of the Horseshoe club in Swindon and who boxed in the Western Counties championship recently.

There were also very good performances from Lydney’s younger boxers, with Callum Lanfear being awarded the Light Fantastic Cup as the best junior prospect following his bout with Joe Adams of Downend in Bristol.

Ten-year-old Dan Hardy in his second skills bout against Reggie Hughes of the King Alfred’s club in Burnham-on-Sea.

Eleven-year-old Bryn Godwin boxed very well and was unfortunate to lose on a split decision of Anthony Doland of Gloucester.

Cody Amand was unfortunate that the referee stepped in with 30 seconds to go of his local derby with Chepstow’s Luke Connor.

Marcus Thomas lost on a split decision to Thomas Jenkins of the Baker Street gym in Gloucester and Ben Vaughan was ahead on the scorecard when he was retired by Lydney coach Brian Higgs after taking a heavy shot in the second round.
