LYDNEY Reserves won the battle of the North Glos Premier sides to take the West Dean Charities' Senior Cup.

Coming into the game there was not much between the two sides – Woolaston led the division but third-placed Lydney were six points adrift with a game in hand.

Despite the sides knowing each other well the opening half was tight but with both teams playing some frantic football on occasion.

Both sides also had chances to open their accounts in the first 45 minutes but it was Lydney, playing on their home ground who broke the deadlock.

Lydney had looked threatening in the set-piece and it was a corner which led to their first goal with Declan Morley-Lyne scoring with his head from close-range three minutes before the half-time whistle.

During the second half Woolaston played more football as they tried to cancel Lydney's lead.

But the introduction of James Morse for Lydney proved decisive. With 15 minutes left he made a break down the left and found Harry Williams who made it 2-0.

Lydney manager Mark Allen said: "The reserves are a more settled side this season and this was a good win."
