CALDICOT student Melissa Arthur rounded off a superb indoor athletics season with a record on Sunday.
Melissa, 18 and an A-Level student at Caldicot School, added the Welsh Under-20s long jump title with a personal best leap of five metres 71 centimetres – a championship record – at Cardiff's National Inoor Athletics Arena.
"I jumped the winning distance with my first effort," Melissa said, "I didn't improve on it but I'm pleased with the performance."
Melissa's second round jump of 5.41m was more than her personal best at the start of the season, showing a steady imporvement.
Now she is hoping her Senior and Under-20s titles will earn her a place in Wales' team for the Celtic Games in three weeks' time – another stepping stone on her way to realising her ambition of representing Wales at next year's Commonweawlth Games in Scotland.
