NEWENT Town have not had the most settled start to life in the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League but that has not stopped them making a blistering start to the season.
There has only been one "ever present" so far this season with holidays and injuries having an impact on the team sheet but Town have raced to second in the league.
Town's Paul Wilband said: "It been absolutely dreadful with injuries and holidays. We've only had one regular in midfield and we've had a couple of under-18s in the side but the boys have responded well."
"Most of the lads are from Newent and the club is on the up with under-18, under-15 and youth sides.
"We're obviously pushing for promotion and it may be a good thing that other teams don't really know us."
On Saturday Town welcomed FC Barometrics, whose goal difference of plus-11 is the best in the division.
The Cheltenham side were also on a high after beating first division outfit Minsterworth in the Reg Davis Memorial Cup.
Goals from Dorian Colling and skipper Stuart Hall – whose 25-yard free-kick left the keeper a helpless by-stander – secured a share of the points.
