LYDNEY should have given themselves a better total to defend in this rain-affected match.

The start was delayed by showers and when the home side lost the toss they were unsurprisingly sent in to bat.

Lydney started slowly in the face of some tight bowling with opener Jake Bonser falling for six.

Dave Kear came to crease and hit a quick 14 despite three stoppages for rain but then he had to retire hurt when his knee gave way.

Jordan Stone added 20 before being caught. James Bishop scored four but both Joe Franklin and Jack Batcock went without adding to the Lydney total.

Phil Lewis and Lance Evans brought some much-needed stability with Evans eventually going for 31.

Dave Kear resumed his innings and answered the opposition's refusal to allow him a runner by hitting a six.

Lewis went for 13 but Kear was still there on 28 when the innings closed.

Some early chances went begging but Lydney started to exert pressure and for a while the bowlers put them right back into the game.

Andy Kear finished with two wickets for 25 from nine overs and Phil Evans also picked up two for 31 in his nine.

A combination of good luck and sensible batting saw the visitors home with six wickets to spare to claim the victory and Lydney's unbeaten home record.
