MILKWALL go into the last seven games of the season knowing the fate of the league could be decided when these two teams meet again in the final match of the term.
Visitors Newent landed an important psychological blow with the only goal in a tight game that leaves them in second place behind the hosts on a goal difference of 42-41.
If both Newent and Milkwall continue their run of form the league title – and possible promotion to the Northern Senior League – will be decided when the return fixture is played at Newent on May 14.
Milkwall have a tough run in with five of their seven fixtures on the road beginning with a trip to Lydney Town Reserves tomorrow (Thursday).
They follow that with games at Sedbury and Mitcheldean, home to Huntley and Sedbury and trips to Broadwell and that potential one-match shoot-out at Newent.
Newent started with a game last night at home to Redbrook and follow that with Whitecroft at home, Woolaston away and then Lydney, Sedbury and Milkwall.
Graham Grindle of Milkwall said: "There weren't many scoring opportunities but their goal was well-taken and there wasn't much the keeper could do about it.
"We'll be looking to win all six games before to Newent which could decide the league.
"We haven't got an easy run-in with five away games and three (of the seven) are midweek games.
"The lads have to get time off work or take holidays but you accept it.
"We really want to win the league so we can apply for the Northern Senior.
"It's been a very good season and it will go down to the wire."
