A MATCH at Lydney Football Club arranged in the memory of Steve Chivers turned into a 10-goal thriller.
Steve, from Blakeney, who worked at Lydney's Glatfelter paper mill for nearly 25 years, was a highly respected goalkeeper and referee.
As a mark of respect after he passed away following a long battle with cancer, the workforce at Glatfelter decided to hold the football match in his memory.
The management took on the shop floor in a 10 goal thriller. With the management taking a well deserved 3-2 lead by half time, the second half was a different story with injuries and windy conditions helping the shop floor to a 7-3 victory.
Well over 100 people including members of Steve's family watched the event with a buffet and a raffle raising over £2,500 for the Blakeney District Nurses who cared for Steve.
The organisers thanked local businesses for supplying the trophy, which will now be part of an annual event.
