WATCH out for the mighty midget that is Milkwall! In a remarkable season to date they are chasing top spot in the North Gloucester League's premier division and still strutting their stuff in two major cup competitions.
And that's not all. Off the pitch the club's darts and skittles teams are bowling over opponents in some style.
It is, says club secretary Graham Grindle, all going very nicely and even extends to the junior teams. With sides for kids aged from six to 16 the club has a remarkable 177 players signed on!
Grindle was pleased enough with Saturday's Roberts Cup success over Redbrook, an excellent victory in a game he described as highly competitive but played in good spirit.
"It was a good result and both sides played well. Because we were in the Roberts Cup match and last week played in the County Cup we have slipped back to third in the league but we have two games in hand on the leaders," says Graham.
Like manager Graham Clements, Graham believes the club to be good enough to cope with the challenge of Northern Senior League football.
"We are steadily improving our ground so we reach the required standard and being a successful club and playing good quality football we are always attracting new players, so things are looking pretty good at the moment," he said.
With club captain Richard Haggar enjoying a super season and goal ace Mike Nelson already up to 16, Graham is positive the excellent run can be extended into the New Year.
Goals by Joe Clarke and Tom Tomplins gave Milkwall the half-time advantage and Redbrook were eventually put to the sword by Clarke who headed in the only goal of the second -half.
