A 23-year-old Cinderford man was arrested after a high-speed chase by police on the A48 on Tuesday morning.
The pursuit, which is understood to have reached 100mph at times, ended near the petrol station in Chaxhill when the driver allegedly rammed one of the police vehicles that was following him.
The incident started in Gloucester when police attempted to pull over a green Ford Puma on the Elmbridge Court roundabout.
The driver made off and was pursued by a police van and a police car both being driven by pursuit-trained officers.
A spokesman for Gloucestershire Police said: "There was a pursuit which reached speeds of up to 100mph. Nobody was injured in the incident."
The driver of the car has been arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, failing to stop and dangerous driving.
A carer at the Chaxhill nursing home, who didn't wish to be named, said: "I was in the dining room when I noticed two police cars shoot past. I went outside to see what was going on and saw the two police cars pull somebody over.
"It looked like the driver of the car had jumped out of his vehicle and was running towards the field. They set a police dog to go after him. I went to the petrol station and spoke to the attendant there who said they seen a police car smashed up."
