I AM writing this letter to let you know that we are in grave danger of losing our pest control officers, the people that kill the rats.

Last year alone these people killed between 30,000 and 35,000 rats in the Forest without contract work. Can you imagine what would happen if these guys were not around. Within a few years we would be overrun with rats and would have to pay private contractors to get rid of them.

At the moment the cheapest around is £30 a visit and it may take more than one visit to clear the pests. Three visits would cost £90 which you will have to pay if you get a problem.

We need to keep these people in a job, but people tend to say 'oh well, nothing we can do as they have already made up their minds.' Is that how people are nowadays? (Foresters never used to be like that). You can make a difference. Write, email, phone your MP, your local councillor, anyone that can help us to keep these people in their jobs.

Another thing is we may be getting reduced refuse collections. Imagine that. In the summer you will be able to feed the rats from your BBQ.

So let's fight to keep what we think is sense. – Name and address supplied.
