SIX months ago residents of Glyn Road in Tintern were happily living in a street that had the same name for over a hundred years – until the county council decided that was all about to change.
In an effort to help delivery drivers to find the correct postal address with a dedicated postcode Monmouthshire Council decided to rename the road Penterry Lane.
But residents did not want to move address and lobbied Tintern Community Council for help.
After months of talks with residents it has now been agreed the road will be called Glynwood Lane.
The community council decided earlier this summer to take up the residents' concerns with the authority but were told that the properties were located on a rural postcode and that the Post Office holds no official name in their address.
Back in July the council wrote to local people saying "residents in the properties may not be aware of the official name of their road."
Community council chair Councillor Stephanie Shewell said that the road that runs from Forge Road had always been known as Glyn Road.
However Councillor Tony Hayward suggested that the name Penterry Lane should apply to the road that runs from Glyn Road towards St Arvans.
It had also been suggested that the should be three signs: Glyn Road, Middle Road and Glynwood Lane – names that have been used locally for years.
A county council spokesman said: "The name was originally changed to reflect the area's history.
"But the strong view of local residents suggests the road should revert to being named Glynwood Lane to which the authority has agreed."
But at its September meeting some members of the community council were still expressing disquiet about the new name.
Councillor Shewell canvassed members' opinions and said: "We still object to the whole road being renamed Glynwood Lane as part of it should be Glyn Road."
