CALLING all Review readers ... can you identify this lizard?

So far all efforts to find out exactly what 'make' he is has bamboozled local veterinary experts.

The lost lizard – nicknamed Larry – turned up in a consignment of goods delivered from India to Polymer Packaging at Mushet Park, Coleford.

He had successfully completed the two week long journey, although he had lost the end of his tail.

At first Larry was docile, but he quickly became a very lively lizard after warming up in the Polymer offices.

Factory staff took him to the Severnside Veterinary Centre where, after checks, he was pronounced in fine health.

DEFRA officials were contacted to check on quarantine procedures and it was agreed that veterinary nurse Claire Farina, who has a special interest in exotic species, could care for him as long as he was not an endangered species.

And that's the snag ... just what is Larry?

"We have telephoned all the local experts we know but so far no-one has been able to identify what species he is. We are now in the process of making Larry a celebrity by contacting international reptile expert Mark O'Shea to see if he can help," explained Claire.

Larry is about nine inches long, dark grey with a striped tail and spines along the back of his head and neck. He also fans out a neck ruff when roused.

Meanwhile Claire is hoping a Review reader can comed up trumps and tell her and Larry exactly what he is. If you can help, contact Claire on Dean 842185.
