WORRIED about children's safety and the 'dark side' of Halloween, the Mount of Olives Assembly of God Church in Coleford is offering an alternative children's party to celebrate brightness and light.
"We have become increasingly concerned about the increased prominence given to Halloween and how people celebrate it," church secretary Robert Hart states in a letter to the Review.
"We are worried about the safety and vulnerability of children doing trick-or-treat, and don't like the idea of people being scared or intimidated in their homes. As Christians, we are also concerned about some of the sinister and dark sides of Halloween.
"To take our concerns into account we have decided to run a great new event over this period. 'Crazy Colours' will celebrate brightness and light and it will take place on Saturday October 30 and All Saints Eve, Sunday October 31, between 5pm and 7pm on both evenings.
"The children will be asked to wear bright, colourful clothes and think about the good things in life. There will be games and crafts, songs and great food.
"In this way we hope that a positive message may shine through rather than allowing children to be dragged down by darkness and fear."
The party is open to any children aged between 4 and 11 years and booking is necessary – details from the church on Dean 837047.
