Like "Name and address supplied," I consider the new rubbish collection arrangements to be totally inadequate, but for a completely different reason.
My family of four barely half-fills a black bin bag with rubbish per week, yet despite this (and paying nearly £2,000 per year in council tax!) we still have to make regular trips to the council rubbish dump.
Why?
Because Biffa won't collect plastic milk containers – I believe the excuse is "they're too bulky."
Here's some news – they're bulky for us, too, so we have to make regular trips to recycle them.
I don't like to put them in with our general rubbish for collection as there's a dedicated crate for these bottles at the tip. That suggests to me (rightly or wrongly) that they're recycled from there, rather than simply dumped in landfill which I suspect is what happens to our black-bagged rubbish.
Where's the energy saving logic behind that? So much milk is now sold in these containers, this must be a common problem. Can't Biffa invest in a milk-carton-crushing device?
