BRAND new singletrack mountain bike trails, additions to existing trails and better facilities will all be launched this Friday (July 22).

The well-known Family Cycle Trail has had some very special additions over the last few weeks - there are some new humps, bumps and features just waiting to be explored by young children just starting to enjoy a little independent challenge. They've got great names too like rollercoaster, reversing the grade, bikes 'n' berms and tree slalom and you can choose to take the challenge or avoid them.

For those wishing to develop their off-road skills there are two brand new skills loops created to test your bike control. Whether new to the sport or experienced there's plenty here to help build confidence and progress ability.

The brand new Verderers' Trail is said to be an exciting and adventurous trail for intermediate and experienced cyclists on mountain bikes. With different surfaces, narrow sections, moderate climbs and berms, this is the perfect adventurous experience for those wishing to get deeper into the Forest.

Phil Morton, Head of Visitor Services, Forestry Commission in the Forest of Dean said:

"Cannop Cycle Centre offers a fantastic day out to families. Enjoy the Forest of Dean on two wheels!"

Ian Officer, new owner of Pedalabikeaway Cycle Hire said:

"The extensions to the Family Trail have already proved hugely popular with our visitors - especially the youngsters and young at heart.

"Likewise the new skills loops have been offering a great chance to hone cyclists' technique before heading onto the trails. We're all looking forward to the opening of the Verderer's blue trail - having had a sneak preview we think this is one of the best new trails in Britain, let alone the local area. The final descent back to Pedalabikeaway is guaranteed to put a smile on your face and we've already heard riders whooping loudly as they descend through the trees.

Landscaping work around the cycle centre is also continuing apace, we can't wait to open our new extended cafe in the next few weeks and look forward to having a coffee with all our visitors over the summer months."
