THE weekend saw the last Cinderford Carnival in its present form and everything went off superbly, with fine weather throughout – and even a bit of sun!
"It was very good. We had eight floats altogether – more than in recent years," said one of the organisers, Margaret Bevan.
Crowds turned out to watch the colourful procession, with its bands and walking entries, parade through the town from the Rugby Club to the Miners' Welfare Field where there was a range of entertainments and a funfair.
Float winners were Jubilee (Friends of Walford Avenue, Ross); Winnie the Pooh (St Anthony's School); and Go Hula! (Forest Emeralds).
'Bertie Basset' was top adult walker with Carnival Queen second, and top for the juniors was Royal Jubilee with Man in the Moon second and Peter Pan third. Best band was Highfield Blues.
There have been no decisions on what sort of event Cinderford will be staging next year but a Cinderford Festival committee has already been formed to discuss a number of projects.
