A WILD boar bled to death in an "horrific" shooting incident in woods near Coleford.

Police are appealing for information about the incident after the 18-month-old male animal was shot in the jaw between Five Acres and Mile End.

Gloucestershire Police say they are linking the discovery to a report or three or four men in a 4x4 vehicle shooting at boar at Forest Hills Golf Club at about 8.45pm on Monday, August 20.

The body of the animal was discovered by a walker on Wednesday, August 22.

Sergeant Simon Clemett, of Forest Police, said: "What happened to this boar was horrific and we would urge anyone who has information to come forward.

"There are a number of possible offences here including trespassing with firearms and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal."

Anyone who can identify the men seen at the golf club or who have any other information should call the police on 101 quoting incident 91 of August 22.
