UKIP and their supporters, it seems, would like to stop mass immigration, support for multiculturalism and leave Europe.

What would we in the Forest know about immigrants? There are hardly any here! I knew many immigrants when I lived in London, but never considered them a problem, only an asset.

I wouldn't want to live in the non EU countries, Norway and Switzerland. Apparently UKIP think they are our role models for wealth and prosperity. Unfortunately in Norway, prices are so expensive that many go weekly grocery shopping in Denmark. In Switzerland, a four bedroom house might cost 1.5 million pounds. It's easy for a country to be rich when it excludes the poor.

Here are some other facts about British life. Fish and chips (invented by Jewish immigrants) Isambard Kingdom Brunel  (French father) Sir Alec Issigonis designer of the mini (Greek), Winston Churchill (American mother) Paul McCartney (Irish grandfather) Augustus Pugin, designer of Big Ben's clock tower (French father) and of course The Royal Family (German, Dutch, French, take your pick).

We are British Europeans, a nation of immigrants and always have been. No amount of boring statistics twisted to fit a doctrine can change that. We could leave Europe and stop immigration but at what cultural cost?

Maybe, it's less complicated. We've been here before. Global depression, nationalism and ignorant hatred of immigrants. I doubt it will lead to war in Europe this time, but it definitely won't do us any good.
