GRASS cutting in Lydney and surrounding areas continues to be a thorn in everyone's side. Two Rivers are constantly sending out letters illegally in plain envelopes that at the least are intimidating and at the worst approaching bullying.
However, whilst an attempt has been made to find out why there are persisting in this saga they have quoted Right to Buy Conveyance Schedule 5, para 1 but state it cannot be shown to the public because of the Data Protection Act. This in itself raises questions!
Councillor Amanda Sterry is doing an excellent job keeping the public informed of what is going on in the Residents' Committee and needs support from every household involved. Some people in Lydney have been canvassed and all have stated that they will not pay a charge that they believe is covered by the council tax.
If Two Rivers have sub-contracted the task from the district council surely the cost should be mutually agreed by the two parties. Also the Right to Buy Conveyance does not state anything regarding a freeholder paying annual charges for maintenance activities such as grass cutting.
An alternative is to allow the residents to mow the grass which many are willing to do – it's only for seven months of the year.
Residents throughout the Forest of Dean and Sedbury need to support each other against this unreasonable, intimidating pressure. – Lydney resident (name and address supplied).
