SAMBA bands, vintage vehicles, gymnasts, footballers and a fire engine all made their way through Monmouth on Sunday (July 2) as part of the town’s annual carnival.

Although there were no vehicle floats this year, there were a number of walking floats. Prizes, were awarded for the best entries, as judged by High Sheriff of Gwent Kevin Thomas.

Rainbow Warrior won the prize for the best individual walker this year and the group award went to Busy Bees Toddler Group with their Fantastical Misfits.

Best vintage entry was the trio of Massey Fergusons, with the double decker bus driven by Ken and Shirley Morgan taking second place.

Organisers said; “Monmouth Carnival Sunday is a fun and entertaining event organised by volunteers to bring the people of our community together. We hope the community carnival appeals to the residents of all ages from tots to grandparents. We work hard to achieve a first class event for all families.

“The carnival has always been an open-access, all-inclusive event. It gives a platform for individuals and organisations to promote their services, skills and talents within our aims.

“We’d specifically like to thank Monmouth Town Council, Monmouthshire County Council, Rotary Club of Monmouth, St Mary’s Priory, Monmouth Castle Great House and Community Matters – Waitrose.

Monmouth Mayor, Felicity Cotton, thanked everyone for attending the event and thanks those who dressed up to take part in the parade. She particularly thanked mace bearer John Blake for donating carnival prizes.
