ON Saturday, August 19 on the B4226, Chepstow to St Briavels, Cinder Hill, the Wye Valley, Redbrook and Monmouth, A4136 The Kymin, and Staunton there were chaotic scenes of gridlock all by an event called the Wiggle Wye Valley Warrior.

Highway Code clearly published rules 66, 68, 71and 206 were all totally ignored by cyclists who were all over the road, giving no consideration to others or local people going about their business.

They showed no regard to other road users, weaving in and out of traffic held up by them, riding on the wrong side of the road, riding on pavements, overtaking and undertaking traffic waiting to get through traffic lights.

When is this madness going to stop?

Do they not realise, going out to ‘play’ in the traffic is dangerous?

I saw three very near misses involving cyclists and car and motorcycles just between Bigsweir and Redbrook.

Later, going up from Monmouth to Staunton, cyclists were coming down the wrong side of the road into oncoming traffic rather than wait in traffic until they could progress safely.

There is going to be a serious road accident involving these people if they do not stop using public roads to play at being competitive cycling road racers.

Where were the police? Who gave them permission to run this event in holiday traffic on a weekend?

Absolute madness.
