SUNSHINE and a relaxed vibe were the order of the day for Coleford Busking Festival on Saturday (June 17), with some 30 musicians entertaining shoppers and

music lovers alike.

Coleford Mayor and organiser Nick Penny said: “It was an absolutely fantastic event helped by the warm weather.

“There was a

lovely atmosphere throughout the town with music in all areas.

“The open mic stage on the clock tower island hosted over 20 acts throughout the day and we know a few more musicians busked around the town but didn’t register to come on stage.”

There was music throughout the day in St John Street, Newland Street, Pyart Court, Mushet Walk, outside Midlands Co-op and in High Street.

Cllr Penny added: “We had all sorts of music from young singer-songwriters with acoustic guitars to accordion players, folk bands and a ukulele band. Most musicians came from around a 20-mile radius, from Usk, Monmouth, Ross-on-Wye and from across the Forest.

“There were around 50 to 60 people listening to the music at any one time, from those just going about their business who decided to linger with a cup of coffee to those who came to spend the day listening to the musicians.”

The event was fully funded by Coleford Town Council and

was organised by community interest business Music Industry Services (MIS).

“We’d like to say thank you to all of the performers who gave up their time,” Cllr Penny said. “Many also donated their takings for the day to Great Oaks Hospice – who received over £130 – and to MIS for our work with local young musicians.

“We had circus entertainers teaching skills, but we really want to build the street performance elements and would love to see more performers involved in future events.”

MIS is organising Monmouth Busking Festival, which takes place on Saturday, July 29. Any musicians and performers interested in taking part are asked to come to Agincourt Square at 9am on the day to book a slot.
