VANDALS have smashed a stained glass window and tipped over and broken a gravestone at one of the most historic churches in the Forest.

What police have described as a 'rampage' happened in the early hours of last Sunday morning (July 17) at the tiny village of Hewelsfield.

The paintwork and windows of three cars were smashed. Then a gravestone broken and a stained glass window smashed at historic St Mary Magdalene Church which is believed to have Saxon roots and the oldest ringable bell in the Dean.

The damage caused to the stained glass window alone is valued at over £1,000.
