LYDNEY rugby coach Nick Bartlett describes his last game in charge at Regentsholme this Saturday as the biggest in the history of the club.
Bartlett rounds off 20 years as a player and five years as a coach with a request to all local rugby fans to cheer Lydney on to victory against Barnes. Victory for his team will guarantee the club's place in National League rugby for another season.
"We must not rely on other results. The only option for us is to win against Barnes," says Bartlett.
At the request of Barnes, Saturday's kick-off has been brought forward to 2pm.
"It's a family day at the club and there will be plenty going on. I'm hoping everyone interested in rugby locally will turn out and give the boys that extra encouragement and support they need. No game at this level is easy and the crowd at Lydney can often be the deciding factor," he said.
Bartlett is planning to take a back seat after an association with rugby at Regentsholme for a quarter of a century.
"It's time for a break. Things begin in August and from then until the following May it's non-stop," he said.
For a rare change , he says, he will have close to a full strength squad to select from.
"There's everything to play for. We want National League rugby at Lydney so this is a game we have to win," he said.
