A FOREST Pc proved the police always get their man, despite falling up to his neck in a cesspit midway through a chase.
Pcs Simon Young and Sara Sleeman were on patrol on the A48 at Lydney on December 4 and spotted a Vauxhall Astra containing two suspicious youths.
They checked on the suspect car and found the Astra, which had been stolen in Gloucester the previous day, had been in a collision with another vehicle.
The two occupants had made off on foot but Pc Sleeman quickly caught one of them, a 13-year-old from Lydney, and arrested him.
The other youth proved more elusive and made off across fields, with Pc Young in pursuit.
Mid way across a field Pc Young fell up to his neck in a cesspit but he dragged himself out, carried on following the 15-year-old youth and eventually caught up with him and made an arrest.
Both youths were taken to Gloucester Central Police Station for questioning.
The 13-year-old was charged with allowing himself to be carried in a stolen vehicle and the 15-year-old was charged with driving while disqualified, using a vehicle without insurance and aggravated vehicle taking.
Both were appearing before Gloucester Youth Court on Wednesday.
Inspector Keith Desbois, in charge of policing the Forest South Inspector Neighbourhood Area, said: "This was good work by both officers and it just goes to show the lengths, or depths, our officers will go to catch a suspect!
"Fortunately it was only Pc Young's uniform and pride that were damaged."
