WHEN horse charity volunteer Sue Hughes discovered there was a race meeting at Chepstow 10 years to the day she lost her son was killed she organised a cyclethon around many of the country's racecourses.
Sue Hughes's ride will finish in Chepstow on Friday afternoon after taking in Ludlow, Hereford, Stratford-upon-Avon, Cheltenham and Bath.
Sue, a volunteer with the Society for the Welfare of Horses and Ponies, has been raising money through marathon running since her 25-year-old son James was killed in a motorcycle accident in 2002.
Just before the accident he challenged his mum to do "something different like running the marathon" and she later completed the London Marathon.
She became known as the "Galloping Granny" after completing the marathon in aid of the society which takes in abused and neglected horses from South Wales and the borders.
Sue was joined by Lucy and Sandie Stephens of Symonds Yat. There will be a bucket collection in Chepstow where they are due to arrive on Friday afternoon.
