CHARACTERS from Roald Dahl books provided inspiration for the Caldicot Carnival. 

The Sudbrook Girls’ Football Club float was decorated with characters including Willy Wonka and the Oompa-Loompas from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory while Kre8tive Theatre Kidz featured the scary Miss Trunchball and other characters from Matilda. 

Among the walking entries were Ysgol Gymraeg Y Ffin and Dewstow Primary School who also took Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as their inspiration. 

The parade from King George V Field to Caldicot Castle was led by Galaxy Cheer. The carnival, which took place on Sunday (June 25) was organised by the Caldicot Events Committee.

Among the attractions on the field were pony rides from Severnvale Equestrian Centre at Tidenham, Gwent

Police cadets and performances from Caldicot Musical Theatre Society, Severn Tunnel Band and Powerhouse Dance.   

The event was well-supported with people lining the route to see the floats and hundreds on the field at the castle.
