A WALKER is ‘fine but slightly embarrassed’ after a rescue by members of Severn Area Rescue Association (SARA) near Chepstow on Sunday (October 1).
The man, who was local but doesn’t want to be named, had walked from Lancaut through Ban y Gor nature reserve on the path, but then left the path and got stuck in very steep woods.
A spokesperson for SARA said: “The man had gone totally ‘off piste’. He was completely fine, just slightly embarrassed, although he did the right thing in calling for assistance when he felt he could not safely proceed.
“He was well equipped for his walk and was not in any immediate danger.
“Around 10 volunteers from SARA responded. They were mainly from the station in Beachley, with some coming straight from training and some from home, plus a couple from Newport who had been training at Beachley.
“A couple of volunteers from Tewkesbury, who had been helping at the Forest Showcase at Speech House, also responded.”
