MEMBERS of the Lower Wye Ramblers became unexpected heroes on a recent walk from Monmouth to the Kymin, when they came across a sheep caught up in brambles.

Sharon Sanderson, spokesperson for the group said: “The animal was tangled up in the thorns and was unable to pull itself free – it had clearly been trapped for some time as it was in a weak condition and was very frightened.

“With the aid of a small penknife that one member had on their keyring, we managed to cut through the brambles and free the sheep, which was then able to slowly walk back to join the rest of the flock.

“It really is a case of join the Ramblers and expect the unexpected.”
