A YOUTH club's game console – which was bought in memory of a long-standing leader – has been stolen.
President of Blakeney Youth Club, David Preece said he is sure the incident happened on Saturday, August 23 – the day of Blakeney Duck Race – as he says the offender would have targeted the club when "everybody's attention turned to the race."
He said: "The theft has left a bad taste in the village – to say the least! Among the items taken were an Xbox with games and Wii games controllers. The youths who come along to the club get a lot of use out of the games and so we are very disappointed by this."
Tina White was a leader at the club for many years and was taken ill with breast cancer which she finally lost her battle with last November. At her funeral, donations were collected and organisations in the village helped raise £3,000 for the club which was given to them in January.
Mr Preece added: "We decided to use the kind donation from local people towards getting TVs and games for the youngsters who come here. The thief broke through the window and made off with items they could easily carry and dispose of. We are sure it's a young local person with knowledge that these items were at the club. I just hope the identity of the offender is brought to light."
