IN this season of New Year resolutions and big changes ahead soon in the way we watch TV it seems prudent to help others with the impending switchover to digital television.

With just over a year to go until the start of switchover in the West region, Digital UK is now urging people to be a good neighbour, help an elderly friend or relative to switch to digital by installing equipment and helping them to set it up – especially if they're anxious about what to do.

Digital boxes cost around £20 so we would encourage you to think about this as a great present for someone special this year, providing them with more choice in channels and better quality viewing. There are other ways to get digital television too; either through a satellite dish, cable television or broadband – the choice is yours.

Freesat delivers digital TV channels through a satellite dish without having to pay a subscription. The main thing is whatever equipment you're buying make sure it has the 'digital tick' logo which means it will work after switchover – your local retailer can give you plenty of advice.

Digital UK is the independent, not-for-profit body leading the implementation of switchover and if you have any questions or need more information, visit www. digitaluk.co.uk or call our helpline on 0845 650 5050. In the meantime, we would like to wish you the very best for 2009. – Bill Taylor, South West regional manager, Digital UK.
