ORGANISERS at Parkend Flower and Vegetable Show had a 20th birthday to remember with a record number of exhibitors entering the show.
Some 70 people entered, double of that in previous years, with their displays based on a celebration theme. The show had 20 classes including demonstrations in flower arranging and sugar paste flowers, collection of five vegetables and wine.
One of the organisers, Susan Brand said: "There were lots of wonderful entries and this is partly due to the hard work of Pat and Brian Whitton, who put on a children's workshop on Sunday, to boost entries in the children's classes. We gave small cash prizes to the top three winners, which was a £1 for first prize to 25p for third prize and some of the winners got to keep their trophies.
"Keith Gwynne won the Men and Boys Cooking Class with his Parkend pasties and many took part in the celebration cake class, which this year was won by Sarah Jones. There was a stunning array of flowers and cooking and the spectators were not disappointed.
"This year we awarded people in connection with our 20th birthday. Randalph Minchin won outstanding achievement for his continued support of the show for 20 years, and a new rising star award in memory of carnival stalwart John Gwynne, was won by George Stratford. We were really impressed by the standard of entries and so pleased with the continued support of the exhibitors. Well done and thank you to all who took part."
