IT was a beautifully sunny day for the match between St Mary's Old Boys and EA Sports in the casual league. Barring the occasional train past the lovely ground at Portskewett, it was perfect.
Matthew Pinchard takes up the story: "The game started very competitively with both sides showing lots of energy and playing great football and St Mary's goalkeeper, Alex Pinchard, well protected by his defenders Steve Cooper, Steve Patterson and Steve Swallow. With strikers Matt Owen and Gareth Moore having great service from Nicky Owen and Paul Maybe everything looked close to breaking the deadlock.
"It wasn't until the 35th minute after Matt Owen was brought down in the box that a penalty was awarded. The half-time score was 1-0.
"In the second half, sub Jason Huntley replaced the injured Nicky Owen. Straight from the kick off Ian Davies sent the ball into the corner for Huntley to run in. He cut inside the EA Full back pulled it back for Matt Owen to finish well.
"St Mary's dominated then with midfield Ian Davies and Stuart McKay showing their class in the middle of the pack. Their third goal came from a great cross from Gareth Moore to Matt Owen who scored a cracker from the edge of the box with his head. The final score: 5-0."
