BBC 2's Flog It auction programme came to the Dean Heritage Centre on Monday to learn more about chainsaw sculpture.
Presenter Paul Martin and the crew had lunch in the restaurant before taking a tour of the museum and grounds.
They met chainsaw sculptor Clayton Ryder and poet and freeminer Dave Harvey.
Dave said: "It was a beautiful day – the weather was wonderful. Clayton carved an eagle which was absolutely marvellous.
"The crew stayed from 1pm until dark, although Paul went a bit earlier. He was very down to earth, a lovely person."
Dave said he managed to flog some stumps to Paul and would be delivering them to his house.
The valuation day for the show the film crew was working on was held at Monmouth in November and the auction will take place on Wednesday, March 18 at Anthemion Auction in Cardiff. The programme is due to be broadcast later in the year.
