CELEBRATIONS to mark the centenary of Aylburton Methodist Church saw a large gathering of members and friends of the chapel.

The celebrations also coincided with its harvest thanksgiving service.

Minister Revd Heather Upton conducted the service and was supported by the Church Music Group together with Marian Mathews and Enid Markey as they recalled past times at the chapel, remembering the many occasions of fun and fellowship together over the years.

Mrs Ursula Humphreys composed and read a poem entitled In Celebration of Our Chapel.

Elizabeth Day gave a short history of the chapel, which was originally opened on October 7 1915, and Brian Reece brought the congregation up-to-date with the complete refurbishment of the building which is expected to be finished in early December.

Elizabeth said: “It was certainly a wonderful time of praise and celebrations, and a time to look forward to the next 100 years of Methodism in Aylburton.”
