AS A POW in World War 2 I was definitely at Wynols Hill Camp in 1947, as during the heavy snowfall of 1947 we cleared miles of snow from the roads in the Forest.

We left Wynols Hill Camp in 1948 – I think, January. I do not remember being in a camp in Mile End.

George is right about us being at the Lydney Camp first.

We were guarded by blacks by day and whites by night. The guns were taken from the blacks by night as for some reason they were not trusted.

At some stage we replanted mixed trees at Longhope.

When it rained we went to the Blaisdon monks and played ping-pong. We built a pre-fab village at Druids Lodge in Wiltshire. We were also at Moreton in Marsh for a short while, also Wharton, near Blackpool, an airport.

I can remember selling radio equipment to British personnel which the Americans left behind.

I was there. I called a British officer 'Limey,' he nearly hit me, and I wondered why, as the Americans used it all the time and we thought the expression was OK. – ex POW. (Name and address supplied).
