I JUST wanted to comment on the letter submitted by Cllr Marian Lewis last week (Waste plea to dog owners), as she is right to point out that there is a small number of irresponsible dog owners in the town that are not cleaning and disposing of dog waste appropriately.
I take my daughter to the park in Garden City and I know there really is a problem there where some dog owners are either not cleaning up after their dogs or are just depositing the waste anywhere they see fit – like throwing it into hedges and even into people's back gardens. This behaviour is unacceptable and the residents of Garden City are not going to tolerate it.
There is an issue with insufficient dog waste bins in Garden City. I know the hard working volunteers of Garden City Community Group were pledged £100 by the Town Council several months ago to get a dog bin but that money is still not forthcoming. I do hope that will be rectified soon and I would hope that with any year end money in the budget, they will provide a few more because two or three are needed.
I have approached the County Council regarding penalty signage and warden patrols and this is something they have promised to take forward. However in the end, it is up to dog owners to take responsibility for their pets and for themselves.
Garden City residents have had enough. So a polite yet firm warning to those who think they can carry on with their thoughtless actions, if you are spotted you will be challenged!
