MEMBERS of a school history club are hoping former students can help them in a quest to find an important piece of its history.
It is known that a time capsule was buried when Caldicot School was built in 1958 but despite their Indiana Jones-style tenacity with a shovel, history club members Hannah Bates, Dylan Benyon, Cerys Blanchard, Isaac Ingle-Gillis, Tegan Harron-Edwards, Megan Hawley, Kieron Leahy, Dylan Lewis, Maddie Monde, Paul Rolls and Alex Wills, have so far drawn a blank.
It is hoped that people who were in the town when the school was built might be able to point the young archaeologists in the right direction.
History teacher Matt Handford said: “We’ve been searching but we can’t find any trace of it – if there is anybody who knows which area it was buried in, it would be a great help.”
The school is currently being rebuilt and a new time capsule will be buried before it opens next September.
Although the hunt for the time capsule has been frustrating, history club members are celebrating after winning a prestigious award for a project on the ‘hidden’ history of Caldicot.
You can find out more about that story on page 12 and if you can help locate the time capsule contact the school on 01291 426436.
