"FOREST of Dean Stop the War" have been out on the streets of Cinderford, Lydney and Coleford collecting signatures on a petition to send to the Government. The response we have had indicates that most people are against going to war for a variety of reasons.

For compassionate reasons because indiscriminate bombing kills the innocent and rarely picks off the main man; for economic reasons because governments always seem strapped for cash to fund social services but can always find money for war; for reasons of self-preservation because a war will encourage more martyrs for terrorist activity which won't be confined to any particular war zone and, of course, for the sheer hypocrisy of it all.

For nearly half a decade CND have been trying to persuade our governments to ditch its nuclear arsenal but we still retain our weapons of mass destruction as does the USA.

Maybe our petition will not stop this mad rush to war but it is important that our Government know that they take this action against the will of the people and that history records this fact. – Wendy Corum, Ruspidge Road, Cinderford.
