MOURNERS flocked to pay their respects to steam engine enthusiast David Green on Monday (April 29).

The 77-year-old's passion for steam engines saw him make his final journey on the back of "Emma", who took 30 minutes to trundle along from the Speech House Hotel to Yew Tree Brake Crematorium.

Long time friend, John Kidley said: "I have known David for 40 years and only in the last year we have struck up a hobby in steam engines.

"Before Dave passed away he said he wished to go to his funeral on the back of a steam engine. We started off at the Speech House Hotel and it took 30 minutes to get to the crematorium.

"The steam roller "Emma" was kindly provided to us by Herefordshire County Council who own it but the engine is maintained by Hereford traction and vintage club.

"I know if Dave was here he would have laughed and been very pleased with the day."
