BEAUTIFUL displays of flowers helped brighten up Newnham Armoury Village Hall on Saturday.
The annual Newnham Flower Show didn’t fail to impress visitors as well as judges who had the joy of looking at the various entries from produce to art and crafts.
Show organiser, Wendy Anderson said: “While there were lots of exhibits, particularly in the children’s section, the vegetable exhibits were down on last year as growers said the weather has not been in their favour.
“There were plenty of flowers, especially the six beautiful agapanthus blooms, flower arrangements, art and craft, photography and the ever-popular domestic section which reached high prices in the auction.”
The Barbara Allsopp Memorial Cup (for most points in show) was awarded to Margaret Hogg. In the vegetable class, Jeremy Reader received the Armoury Hall Cup for most points and the Shilling Cup for best exhibit went to Linda Hopkins. In the fruit class, the winner of the Fedden Cup for most points and Newnham Shield for best exhibit was Peggy Swinley.
In the flowers class, the Armoury Hall Rose Bowl for most points was awarded to Julie Sparkes and the Mary Boucher Rose Bowl for best exhibit was won by Bruce Webber. The floral art Caulket Trophy (shared) for most points was given to Penny Bonnet and Julie Sparkes. In the domestic class, the Allsopp Cup for most points was awarded to Margaret Hogg and the Townley Trophy for best exhibit was given to Carole Reader.
The Willis Cup for most points in the art and craft section went to Vicki Richardson and the photography class saw the Cross Cup for most points given to Linda Hopkins. The Rental Centre Cup for best exhibit was won by Ann Williams. The children aged under-seven class saw the Blinston Cup for most points presented to Joshua Thompson and the aged 12 and under class for the Barnes Cup for most was points given to Amber Hood.
Wendy added: “The show was a worthwhile event for Newnham Armoury Village Hall and the community. Many thanks to everyone who helped or took part in this year’s Newnham Show – it was such an enjoyable event with a very high standard of entries.
“The show is held primarily as a community rather than a fundraising event, but the £286 raised will go towards the maintenance of the Armoury Village Hall. Thank you again.”
