PROPOSALS for a new Tesco supermarket and petrol station replacing the former famed Feathers Hotel in Lydney come before Forest planners next week.

And it looks as if the enterprise will be providing no fewer than 185 new jobs.

No major objections are expected to be raised to the plans which include a store of 2,554 square metres located on the corner of High Street and Oxford Street together with a new petrol station at the corner of High Street and Victoria Road.

Some 200 car parking spaces will be created adjacent to the store and a further 68 spaces will cover the site of the former Feathers.

The report before the planners states: "The site measures approximately 4.7 acres and is currently used as a petrol station, car showroom, garage workshops and part residential.

"A number of other commercial buildings including the former post office and the Feathers Hotel, fronting onto High Street and Oxford Street, have already been demolished.

"A traffic impact assessment has been submitted which concludes that there are no highway or traffic reasons why the proposed food store and petrol filling station should not be allowed to proceed.

"The applicant has already completed a legal agreement with regard to highway improvements in Victoria Road."

The report says fencing and walls would be constructed to protect the amenities of nearby residents.

The applicants are seeking to trade from the site for seven days a week but have not yet stated proposed opening hours.
