PEOPLE in Chepstow and Caldicot will face a trek of up to 20 miles to their nearest police station while in Pontypool there's a choice of five within about 12 miles, under changes agreed by Gwent Police.

The decision to close the front desks at Chepstow and Caldicot – meaning the nearest station open to the public is in the centre of Newport, was branded "unfair", by Caldicot councillor Tony Easson.

Gwent Police say the service will be provided in new ways including a mobile police station which will make it easier to contact the police.
