IT’S hardly a surprise  when councillors from one party try to make political capital out of  a position  taken by a councillor from another party.

What is more interesting is how much of themselves they reveal in the process.

As far as I can see the Cllr McFarling made a  well-reasoned decision to vote against AONB status for the whole of the district council area.

He did however make it abundantly clear that he would have supported  AONB  status for the area of the Statutory Forest, a  fact that  Cllr Guyton’s recent letter misrepresented  just when he was seeking  to expose the foibles of others.

Cllr Preest at least got it right on that point but to my mind his  apparent denial of the strong  scientific evidence about climate change goes beyond rational  thinking.

After the  progress made at the recent climate change talks in Paris it’s disappointing  that some  politicians appear  not to see  the difference between environment and scenery and are  still willing to offer voters  a metaphorical patch of sand to bury their heads in.
