LIKE many of your readers I am a tenant of Two Rivers Housing. I have also had my disagreements with them but unlike some tenants I do not hold a grudge (life is just too short for that) or find it necessary to contact the media to air my complaints.
The staff at Two Rivers have always been very apologetic, sympathetic and accommodating and very quick to put right that which is not up to scratch. I sympathise with the gentleman in Broadwell who experienced problems with asbestos. It must have been very upsetting and distressing for him and his wife. All the problems have been eradicated and he is now very comfortable in his home, so why, at this stage did he involve the press?
It's about time that Two Rivers Housing received some positive press for a change. Yes, they sometimes get it wrong, but isn't that true of most businesses and especially housing associations.
Recently I have had the opportunity to communicate with several different housing associations and their tenants up and down the country, and I can assure all Two Rivers tenants that they are being homed/housed by one of the better associations in the country. Not the best admittedly, but coming up a very close second.
Likewise, Garry King, the chief exec of Two Rivers Housing is a decent, fair and knowledgeable leader of the company and under his leadership the company has gone from strength to strength. He is totally approachable both by the staff and all tenants. Asking for his resignation is hardly an option, and should not be considered.
The recent upheaval that some tenants have endured during refurbishments of their homes is nothing compared to what tenants in other areas have had to deal with and the end results have been far superior than could reasonably be expected. So, I say to those satisfied tenants, stand up and be counted, support your association and try to overpower the negative press Two Rivers gets from time to time.
I would also like to point out, whenever you phone Two Rivers Housing (which is a free phone number and not one of these automated machines) the Customer Services team are always so polite and so helpful. Well done to you all and thank you.
Also, Two Rivers Housing employ a handyperson, who will come to your home free of charge to put up shelves, erect flat packs or, in my case, take down and hang new curtains for me. This is to name but a few of the jobs he will do for you.
I would also urge all Two Rivers tenants to read the 'Tenant Topics' when they come through your letterbox. They are so informative.
To those of you who are not happy with Two Rivers being your landlord then I say, why don't you rent from the private sector? Only then you may realise how lucky you were in having Two Rivers as your landlord.
I will not reply to any letters regarding this, and do you want to know why – because I want to enjoy the beautiful surroundings I live in and live my life each day as it comes.
I will conclude by saying I have just been in touch with friends who live in Japan, who have just had their first baby and had to flee with just the clothes they had on their backs. Who are the lucky ones? So to all you moaners out there, get a life.
– Mrs Gomery. Coleford.
