Lydbrook Athletic 0, Wotton Rovers 2

THIS result was the league's shock of the day. But it may yet prove to be timely, persuading Lydbrook to knuckle down and cement their place as future promotion contenders.

There's no lack of ambition on Wyeside. The plans are still to improve facilities and to climb back up the leagues, once again becoming a Forest force to be reckoned with.

Manager Wayne Lewis says he believes his young side has got what it takes.

"We were a bit rusty. Unfortunately we lost a few players before Christmas and we have hardly played since. Wotton deserved their win. They looked as though they had more games under their belt and the result was fair. They deserved to win," he said.

It was, said Lewis, a game full of incident.

Both sides had a player apiece sent off – Wotton losing their goal-keeper.

"We created plenty of chances and had the ball turned off the line a few times. But we didn't take our chances and they did. It was as simple as that," he said.

Lewis puts his faith in a crop of promising youngsters backed up by experienced heads such as Steve Blaby, Martin Reid and goalkeeper Lee Barnard.

Leading scorer is striker Mark Wayman who has 15 to his credit and hopes for at least another half dozen before the end of the campaign.

"I'm hoping for a strong end to the season and a place in the top half dozen. The long term plan is to complete the changing room project and to climb up through the leagues," said Lewis.
